Pop Music Week continues with another delicious end-of-summer pop jam from British-Irish boy band The Wanted. With their third album, The Wanted have shied away from the more edgy, rock band style that we heard in their first two albums. Instead, they’ve taken a page from One Direction’s playbook, opting for a more bubblegum pop sound that ranges from problematic (“Walks Like to Rihanna”) to terrific (“We Own the Night”).
With “We Own the Night,” The Wanted reinforce their party boy image in a musical celebration of their nocturnal lifestyle. Although we’ve all heard a slightly different version of this song from dozens of artists before (Ke$ha, Enrique, Pitbull, Britney, J. Lo, etc.), The Wanted successfully lay claim to a sleep-all-day, party-all-night track that’s sure to pack dance floors well into the Fall. With an instantly memorable chorus and a great hook, “We Own the Night” is the group’s best offering since their worldwide smash single, “Glad You Came,” and very likely to match – or even outperform – One Direction’s current hit single, “Best Song Ever.”
A few remixes are circulating on the web, including this hi-energy overhaul from Jon Dixon & Scott Mills.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52z7aIU5K4k]
