It’s been 5 years since OneRepublic ruled the charts with “Apologize,” their very first mainstream hit. It launched them into superstardom and made Ryan Tedder one of the most popular writers and producers in pop music.
“If I Lose Myself” — the lead single from their third studio album — dropped in January, and was instantly met with controversy. With its heavy drums, pulsing electronic beats, and clapping syncopation, critics charged that OneRepublic was selling out its rock band roots and embracing the genre du jour — electronic dance music.
Personally, I think it’s a stunning track, and it’s been getting some serious EDM festival play, thanks to a stadium-sized remix from Alesso. Meanwhile, DJ Ryan Kenney has just dropped his AMAZING overhaul of the track, which preserves all the big builds and synths of the original, while adding some deep house flavor that’ll make it rock a club dance floor. LOVE it!
