Olly Murs has become a household name in Britain since his appearance on the 2009 series of The X Factor. In his short career, he’s already managed to produce three successful albums and accumulate four #1 singles. Olly now hopes to do the same in the States, where he’s embarked on an aggressive media blitz to promote his first American single, “Troublemaker.” He toured with One Direction last year across the US, and played a sold out solo concert in NYC last month. And his media appearances in America have only reinforced what fans elsewhere already know: he’s handsome, charming, quirky, self-deprecating… and, most importantly, musically gifted.
Olly is often compared to Robbie Williams, another sexy Brit with staggering good looks and an impressive set of vocal chops. For all his success in the UK — and around the world — Robbie has had a harder time in America. Olly hopes to break that mold, aspiring to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Adam Levine, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake.
His upcoming single, “Army of Two” may just his best shot yet at realizing his American dream. Written by Olly as a tribute to the Murs Army (the term he uses to describe his fans), “Army of Two” is a fun, upbeat pop single, made even better with some help from remix masters Steve Smart & Westfunk. The track is instantly likable, and the chorus is catchy enough to be memorable. Whether this is the single that breaks through in America remains to be seen, but I suspect he’s got a bright future ahead of him on this side of the Pond.[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNVTOZ_Tnwc]
